Civic Responsibilities

Spirituality, Law, Race, Awakening

For the next several weeks, Human Sciences will reside at the intersection of law and religion with several classes that explore the implications of authority, systematic oppression, tradition, and cognitive parity.

We will initiate the unit by listening to Professor Michelle Alexander's recent conversation at On Being in regard to her text, The New Jim Crow. Alexander considers legal and identity-based policies that permeate the landscape of the United States and recent attempts to overcome these long held systems.
